청주시가 국도대체우회도로(3순환로) 국동교차로 연결로 공사를 완료했다.
청주시는 청원구 내수읍 국동리 국동교차로 청주·보은 방향 연결로를 16일 오후 4시 개통한다고 밝혔다.
이번 개통 구간은 국동교차로에서 보은·청주 방향 진입 연결로다. 청주시와 대전지방국토관리청이 각각 50%씩 부담해 총 141억원을 투입했다. 지난해 4월 착공해 1년 8개월 만에 완공했다.
연결로 개통으로 국동교차로는 증평·청주·보은 전 방향 입체 연결이 가능해졌다. 상리교차로~용정교차로 구간 이동 거리는 약 3km, 주행 시간은 약 7분 단축된다. 청주 도심 교통량 분산 효과도 기대된다.
청주시는 도심 교통 혼잡 완화와 지역 간 이동성 개선으로 국도 간선 기능이 강화될 것으로 전망했다.
이범석 청주시장은 "국동교차로 연결로 개통으로 3순환로 완성도가 높아졌다"며 "시민 이동 편의를 높이는 교통 인프라 확충을 지속하겠다"고 말했다.

Cheongju City completed construction of the Gukdong interchange connector on National Highway Bypass (Third Ring Road).
Cheongju City announced the Cheongju-Boeun direction connector at Gukdong interchange in Gukdong-ri, Naesu-eup, Cheongwon-gu will open at 4 p.m. on December 16.
The newly opened section is the connector entering Boeun-Cheongju direction from Gukdong interchange. Cheongju City and Daejeon Regional Office of Construction Management each funded 50%, investing 14.1 billion won total. Construction began in April last year and finished in one year and eight months.
The connector opening enables full three-dimensional access to Jeungpyeong, Cheongju, and Boeun directions at Gukdong interchange. Travel distance between Sangni interchange and Yongjeong interchange decreases by approximately 3km. Driving time reduces by approximately 7 minutes. Traffic distribution effect for Cheongju downtown is also expected.
Cheongju City projected national highway arterial functions will strengthen through downtown traffic congestion relief and improved inter-regional mobility.
Cheongju Mayor Lee Beom-seok said, "The Gukdong interchange connector opening enhanced Third Ring Road completion." He added, "We will continue expanding transportation infrastructure to improve citizen mobility."
