◆ 진천 토박이, 2026년 군수 출마 의지 천명

초겨울 햇살이 따스하게 내리쬐던 21일 오후, 진천군청 인근 사무실에서 김명식(49) 진천군 기업인 협의회장을 만났다. 고향 진천의 미래를 설계하는 그의 눈빛은 진지했고, 목소리는 신념으로 가득했다.

김 입후보 예정자는 2026년 6월 지방 선거에서 더불어민주당 후보로 진천군수 출마를 준비한다. "진천에는 중앙 정부와 긴밀하게 소통할 수 있는 젊은 리더가 필요합니다." 그의 말에는 9만 군민을 향한 책임감이 묻어났다.

김 입후보 예정자는 진천 삼수초등학교와 진천중학교를 졸업한 진천 토박이다. 공주한일고를 거쳐 서울대학교 사회과학대학과 연세대학교 언론 홍보 대학원을 졸업했다.

◆ 서울대·연세대 학력과 지역 애정 강조

김 입후보 예정자는 체육 기자로 사회생활을 시작했고 홍보 마케팅 회사를 창업했다. 현재 우석대학교 진천 캠퍼스 겸임 교수로 재직하며 진천군 기업인 협의회장을 맡고 있다.

김 입후보 예정자는 "진천 토박이라서 진천을 누구보다 사랑하고 잘 안다"며 "서울대와 연세대 대학원에서 쌓은 중앙 인맥과 지역 애정이 강점"이라고 말했다.

◆ 체육회장 5년 재임하며 진천 스포츠 도시로 육성

김 입후보 예정자는 2020년부터 2025년까지 민선 1·2대 진천군 체육회장을 역임했다. 재임 기간 진천군은 충북 도민 체육 대회에서 종합 우승 1회, 2위 1회, 3위 2회 성적을 거뒀다. 지난 5월 체육회장직을 자진 사퇴했다.

김 입후보 예정자는 "체육회장으로 진천군을 스포츠 특화 도시로 만들었다"며 "더 큰 책임을 맡기 위해 군수에 출마한다"고 밝혔다.

◆ 이재명 선대위 경험으로 중앙 정치 인맥 확보

김 입후보 예정자는 2022년 제20대 대통령 선거 당시 이재명 후보 중앙 선대위에서 국민 통합 본부 종합 상황실장으로 일했다. 올해 제21대 대선에서는 충북 선대위 전략 본부장을 맡았다.

김 입후보 예정자는 "기자 생활과 학연을 통해 정부 부처 인맥을 쌓았고 두 번의 대선을 치르면서 중앙 정치권 네트워크를 확보했다"며 "이 인맥이 진천군수가 됐을 때 가장 큰 자산이 될 것"이라고 말했다. 그는 "이재명 대표의 충북 핵심 공약인 충북 혁신 도시 중부 내륙 지역 성장 거점 육성과 수도권 내륙선 광역 철도 조속 추진을 진천군에 반드시 실현하겠다"고 밝혔다.

◆ 49세 젊은 리더십으로 9만 군민과 미래 만들 것

김 입후보 예정자는 "진천군에는 세대 교체가 필요하다"며 "젊은 감각과 추진력으로 진천군을 전국에서 인정받는 혁신 성장 도시로 만들겠다"고 말했다.

김 입후보 예정자는 "진천 토박이이면서 중앙과 소통할 수 있는 능력을 모두 갖췄다"며 "기업인 협의회장으로 경제를 이해하게 됐고 체육회장으로 조직을 이끄는 리더십을 배웠다"고 강조했다.

김 입후보 예정자는 "진천군은 더 이상 낙후된 지역이 아니다"며 "중앙과 긴밀하게 소통하고 국비를 확보하며 대형 프로젝트를 유치할 수 있는 능력 있는 군수가 필요하다"고 말했다. 그는 "젊은 리더십과 서울대·연세대 대학원 인맥, 체육회장과 기업인 협의회장 경험을 바탕으로 9만 군민과 함께 진천의 밝은 미래를 만들어 가겠다"고 밝혔다.

◆ Jincheon Native Announces Intent to Run for County Governor in 2026

On the afternoon of the 21st, with warm early winter sunlight streaming down, we met Kim Myeong-sik (49), chairman of the Jincheon County Business Council, at an office near the Jincheon County Office. His eyes were serious as he designed the future of his hometown Jincheon, and his voice was filled with conviction.

Candidate Kim prepares to run for Jincheon County Governor as a Democratic Party candidate in the June 2026 local elections. "Jincheon needs a young leader who can communicate closely with the central government." His words reflected a sense of responsibility toward the county's 90,000 residents.

Candidate Kim is a Jincheon native who graduated from Jincheon Samsu Elementary School and Jincheon Middle School. He attended Gongju Hanil High School and graduated from Seoul National University's College of Social Sciences and Yonsei University's Graduate School of Media and Public Relations.

◆ Emphasizes Seoul National University and Yonsei University Education and Regional Affection

Candidate Kim began his career as a sports reporter and founded a public relations and marketing company. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Woosuk University's Jincheon campus and chairs the Jincheon County Business Council.

Candidate Kim stated that as a Jincheon native, he loves and knows Jincheon better than anyone, adding that his central government connections built through Seoul National University and Yonsei University's graduate school, combined with his regional affection, constitute his strengths.

◆ Cultivated Jincheon as Sports City During Five-Year Tenure as Sports Association President

Candidate Kim served as the first and second elected president of the Jincheon County Sports Association from 2020 to 2025. During his tenure, Jincheon County achieved one overall championship, one second place, and two third-place finishes at the Chungbuk Provincial Sports Festival. He voluntarily resigned from the sports association presidency last May.

Candidate Kim stated that as sports association president, he made Jincheon County a specialized sports city, adding that he runs for county governor to take on greater responsibility.

◆ Secured Central Political Connections Through Lee Jae-myung Campaign Experience

Candidate Kim worked as director of the National Integration Headquarters Situation Room in Lee Jae-myung's central election campaign committee during the 20th presidential election in 2022. In this year's 21st presidential election, he served as strategic headquarters director for the Chungbuk campaign committee.

Candidate Kim stated that he built connections with government ministries through his journalism career and school ties, and secured central political networks through two presidential elections, adding that these connections will become his greatest asset as Jincheon County Governor. He vowed to realize in Jincheon County Representative Lee Jae-myung's key Chungbuk pledges of fostering the Chungbuk Innovation City as a growth hub for the central inland region and promptly advancing the metropolitan inland rail line.

◆ Will Create Future with 90,000 County Residents Through Young Leadership at Age 49

Candidate Kim stated that Jincheon County needs generational change, adding that he will make Jincheon County a nationally recognized innovative growth city through youthful sensibility and drive.

Candidate Kim emphasized that he possesses both the qualities of being a Jincheon native and the ability to communicate with the central government, adding that as business council chairman he came to understand the economy and as sports association president he learned leadership in leading organizations.

Candidate Kim stated that Jincheon County is no longer an underdeveloped region, adding that the county needs a capable governor who can communicate closely with the central government, secure national funding, and attract large-scale projects. He vowed to create a bright future for Jincheon together with the county's 90,000 residents based on young leadership, Seoul National University and Yonsei University graduate school connections, and experience as sports association president and business council chairman.
