◆ 청주 금천중학교가 국제바칼로레아(IB) 중등프로그램(MYP) 후보학교로 승인됐다. 2025년 11월 28일 공식 승인받은 금천중은 청주 지역 중학교 중 처음이다. 학교는 이번 승인으로 학생 주도적 학습과 국제적 감수성 함양 교육을 본격 추진한다.
◆ 금천중은 2025년 3월 IB 준비학교를 출범시킨 후 교직원 대상 연수와 협의회를 진행했다. 8월 8일 IB 관심학교로 등록한 이후 탐구 중심 수업, 학생 중심 평가, 교과 간 융합수업을 운영해왔다. 이런 과정이 IB 본부의 심사를 거쳐 MYP 후보학교 승인으로 이어졌다. 학생들은 IB 프로그램을 통해 다양한 관점에서 문제를 분석하고 비판적 사고와 협력적 해결 능력을 갖춘다.
◆ 금천중은 인증 절차를 진행해 정식 IB 월드스쿨 전환을 추진한다. 교사·학부모·학생이 함께하는 교육공동체 확대도 계획한다. 김월현 교장은 "금천중이 학생 중심 배움의 전환점을 맞이했다"며 "교직원과 학부모, 지역사회가 참여해 학생들이 국제적 감각을 지닌 세계 시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 지원하겠다"고 밝혔다.

International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme Selection Expands Inquiry-Based Education
◆ Geumcheon Middle School in Cheongju received official approval as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) candidate school on November 28, 2025. Geumcheon Middle School is the first middle school in Cheongju to achieve this designation. The school will now implement student-led learning and international competency education in earnest.
◆ Geumcheon Middle School launched its IB preparatory school in March 2025 and conducted training and meetings for faculty members. After registering as an IB interested school on August 8, the school has operated inquiry-based classes, student-centered assessments, and interdisciplinary classes. Through this process, the school received the MYP candidate school approval following IB headquarters review. Through the IB program, students analyze problems from diverse perspectives and develop critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving abilities.
◆ Geumcheon Middle School will proceed with the certification process to transition into an official IB World School. The school also plans to expand its educational community involving teachers, parents, and students. Principal Kim Wol-hyun stated, "Geumcheon Middle School has reached a turning point in student-centered learning," and added "With participation from faculty, parents, and the local community, we will actively support students in growing into globally-minded citizens with international perspectives."
